Our featured Volunteer of the Month is John Tarrell!
John, Wendy, and Jenna have all been an active part of the Lancer community for many years. John started volunteering at Lancers 5 years ago when his daughter Jenna started riding in the junior rides. Even now that Jenna has graduated John continues to volunteer his time to Lancers. “There are a number of reason I like volunteering at Lancers. The biggest one is that I get to see the horses any time I am there. Although I personally did not grow up with horses, my daughter has ridden for close to ten years, so I have spent a lot of time around horses. I enjoy time with horses. With Lancers being a non-profit I know they rely on volunteers more than other barns in the area would. I enjoy the sense of family within the Lancer community.”
John has played a big role in helping out at training shows, barn clean-up days, therapeutic riding, Pony Rides at the Open House, and multiple years of Musical Ride, and he continues to help keep the office technology in working order. John has ridden a handful of times, at the parent ride and different trail rides, he loves all of the horses but in particular, has a soft spot for Scooby and Vanna “Scooby was the first horse my daughter rode at Lancers and I also knew him from a previous barn. Vanna was the last horse my daughter rode before she graduated from being a junior rider and moved on to university. They will always have a special place in my heart, but all the horses are lovable.” John has loved watching Jenna grow as a rider while working with Vanna over the years. When John is not spending his time at the barn he enjoys traveling and photography. He suspects this may look a little different this year as they won’t be at horse shows all summer.
We are grateful for the whole Tarrel family, and the time and dedication they continue giving to Lancers.
