Our Featured Horse of the Month is Pickles!!
Pickles has unusual rare colouring, known as Medicine Hat (he may have a little too much black on his face to officially qualify but we’re not sure- can anyone enlighten us?)
A Midicine hat horse is mostly white (not gray like most “white” horses, who do not lack pigment in their skin) with colour on the top of their head and ears like a bonnet - often with blue eyes and a pink nose. Pickles has all of these characteristics but maybe too much colour on his face, and he also has a heart shaped splotch surrounding his bum
Legend has it that Medicine Hat horses carry magical powers, and will protect their riders from injury and death. They are sacred horses with a powerful connection to a spiritual realm.
Pickles has only been at Lancers for a short period of time, and almost immediately earned the love and trust of people around him. He has some learning to do under saddle, but is coming along nicely, beginning to understand his new role as a teacher. He isn’t phased by city life, and even took part in our Downtown Horse Show last weekend.
Pickles is a little on the quick side, which teaches riders how to be soft and quiet in saddle. He loves doing ground work, and we know he will be a wonderful addition to our Equine Supported Wellness programs.
Welcome to the herd, Pickles!
