Our Featured Adult Rider of the Month is Amy Withington!
Amy has been riding at Lancers over the last 17 years. She started riding as a junior and continued until she graduated high school. Amy has since returned to Lancers in our adult program. Amy has always loved horses and knew she wanted to ride however; she is grateful to Lancers for so much more than the opportunity to ride. “Horses provide a special bond and riding is the most fun sport that has so many different aspects! Horsemanship skills, flatwork, jumping, friendship, competing, and here at Lancers opportunities like Musical Ride that are so special.”
Amy has been heavily involved in the Lancer lifestyle, as a junior she was the President of Junior Executive, a leader in the Musical Ride, and competed at many horse shows. Amy also worked as a stable hand, barn monitor, and instructor at Lancers. She was adored by many and had a great impact and positive influence on all of the riders! “Lancers truly helped me to become my true, authentic self. Ever since I can remember, so many of my favorite memories have been at the barn. From Musical Ride, late night horse shows, to hanging out all day on Saturday and never wanting to leave as a little girl. I still don’t want to leave the barn on Wednesday night!” Amy gets along with any horse she rides, although she has always had a soft spot for a big bay gelding. As a junior rider, she leased Reese and now her favorite horse at Lancers is Cory.
“Lancers taught me the importance of hard work, gave me lifelong friendships (I am still best friends with amazing girls I met when I was younger), and also inspired my passion for teaching. If I never got into coaching, I wouldn’t have been the teacher I am today, and wouldn’t understand the importance of youth having a sport or activity they feel passionate about- they change lives! One of the most special things is to see girls I used to teach grow up into such strong, sweet, and amazing young women who I look forward to getting to see each week and love our friendships today. Lancers is the most special place” Amy is now a high school teacher and says Lancers has had a positive impact on her whole life. We are so pleased that she continues to spread positive vibes and life lessons she has learned from horses and that she has chosen to continue to be a member of our community.
