Our featured Volunteer of the Month is Dana Beeler!
“Volunteering at Halifax Lancers holds a unique place in my life compared to other volunteer opportunities. It combines my love for horses with my passion for Halifax and our downtown community. Overall, the hands-on, community-centered, and physically active nature of volunteering at Lancers makes it stand out from other volunteer experiences in my life.”
Dana joined Lancers in November 2023 in the adult membership. She has a great background in the Western Pleasure world and showing Quarter Horses. Since joining Lancers Dana is happy to have found a great community of riders and horse lovers! Dana started volunteering right away when she joined Laners and has a great addition to the team. She is currently on the EDIA committee and helps out with weekend night hay. She has also helped with hay and hsvaings deliveries, and pony rides at our Open house. This Summer Dana has been an excellent help at off-property horse shows, and you will see her at the Downtown Horse Show this Sunday! “Horses have always been a significant part of my life, (it’s giving bonafide horse girl), and volunteering at Lancers has allowed me to come back to this missing piece in my life. Over the last 10 months, I’ve learned so much about horse care, riding, Hunter/Jumper shows, and about myself by riding and volunteering at Lancers. The community in and out of the barn has been beyond welcoming and makes it’s really easy to ask questions and learn at your own pace.” Although the hunter/jumper world is new to Dana she is catching on quick and is a lovely rider. This year she completed her Equestrian Canada Rider level 2 with one of her favourite horses, Cory. Dana has spent a lot of time riding and working with Cory and Merlin this year. She is grateful to all of the horses of the to all fo the Horses of Halifax for supporting her in her first yar back riding!
When Dana is not at the barn she is likely putting on music events in Halifax or overseas for her day job. “Riding at Lancers has been an incredible opportunity for me to reignite my passion for horses, volunteering, and giving back to our Community in Halifax. The Community at Lancers has been so welcoming and kind that it feels like I’ve been a part of the fabric of the barn for a very long time. It’s brought structure and discipline into my routine and allows me to spend time with these incredible animals, which is such a gift in the City. Lancers has brought forward future goals for me that I never thought I would be able to do including working towards my instructors' course and learning about the very exciting Hunter/Jumper show world!”
Dana fits in so well at Lancers, it feels like she has always been here. We are grateful for all of he volunteer contributions. It is Thanks to volunteers likek Dana that Lancers is able to continue to Build Better Lives through Horses.
