Our Featured Adult Rider of the Month is Real Clarke!
Real plays many important roles at Lancers and has for a very long time. Real grew up riding as a junior at Lancers and then stopped riding for some years to work on her career. Réal was very involved in the Lancer community as a youth. Between 1994 and 2004, she participated in Junior Executive, Pony Club, Musical Ride, and horse shows, and was even a stable hand on Sundays! Years later when Real came back to Lancers, it was like no time had passed and she was right back to being involved with everything at Lancers. You may know Real as an instructor, barn monitor, horse show volunteer, volunteer at Salmon River Camp, Musical Ride Volunteer, Jacks’ leaser, a past member of our Board of Directors, and above all else she is a great Lancer role model.
If you asked Real who her favourite horse is, she would probably tell you she loves them all, but there is no denying that her favorite horse is Jack. Jack has one of the silliest personalities and is incredibly handsome. Real has been working with Jack for the last 4 years and she has enjoyed the process of working with a young horse and seeing him progress. Réal’s own riding has also progressed along the way. Real has always done a great job working with young horses, as a junior and again as an adult. She rode Giquau for a few years when he first came to Lancers as well. We suspect when the time comes for Jack and Giquau to retire that they may end up with her (and maybe a few others along the way).
Reals’ love and respect for horses is top tier. She leads with a great example of horsemanship and does a great job teaching these skills to both junior and adult riders. We are so grateful for the time and effort that Real continues to give to Lancers and all of the Horses of Halifax.
