Our Featured Volunteer of the month is Angela Himmelman!
Angelas' daughter Quinn started riding at Lancers in 2022. Angela grew up in Halifax and would always love to go visit the horses, although she never rode herself she was very excited that Quinn wanted to ride. She got on the waitlist early on and then the stars aligned when they had just moved downtown and got the call that a spot opened up. “I think I always wished I had a chance to try riding as a kid and now with Quinn at Lancers, I even added my name to the Adult beginner waitlist! We feel so grateful and lucky to get to experience all that Lancers has to offer….it is such a special place!” Angela has so much enthusiasm for Lancers we are so happy she and Quinn made their way here.
“I started volunteering when Quinn started riding at Lancers in 2022. I found that rather than just dropping Quinn off, I would want to stay and watch from beginning to end! Whether that was lessons, shows, clinics, etc.! I wanted to be involved and help out because the atmosphere and community is one in a million and I wanted to be a part of it.” Angela has been involved in the barn in so many ways, and has developed a strong love for horses especially seeing the partnership grow between Quinn and some of the horses, in particular, she fell for Cunningham who she was grateful to be able to ride during the parent ride! Candy is another favorite as she has enjoyed watching Quinn learn so much from her and they are building a great relationship.
Angela has helped out at many hay and shavings deliveries, she is an excellent Horses of Halifax T-shirt salesperson, and she is one of our amazing Musical Ride mom volunteers, you will always find her working hard during spring clean-up days and August clean-up, and whenever needed she is willing to help us out by picking up supplies! This year Angela has also been trained as our horse show secretary we are so excited to have her continue in this role going forward.
“The culture at Lancers is unmatched. The way the older kids pass their knowledge along to the younger kids and are such amazing role models warms my heart. To see everyone working together for the benefit of the horses is inspiring and it’s no wonder that Quinn’s happy place quickly became mine too!” Lancer parents play such an important role in the operations at the barn, we are so grateful to have so many wonderful volunteers like Angela who chose to give their time and efforts to the barn and the Horses of Halifax.
