Our Featured Junior Rider of the Month is Lauren Hiltz
Lauren has been riding at Lancers for four years and joined with two years riding experience. She came to Lancers after hearing good things about the program. Lauren explains that she “instantly fell in love with the barn, the horses, and the people”! She says she finds Lancers fun, organized, and rewarding, and capped it off saying, “I wouldn’t go anywhere else”!
Lauren is always ready and willing to be put to work! She has enthusiastically participated in hay and shavings deliveries and spruce up the barn days. Lauren takes the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities such training shows, clinics, rider levels, Pony Club programming, Salmon River camp, and of course, all social activities too!
Lauren can’t choose just one favourite Lancer horse. Her favourites include Alice and Tootsie (A.K.A Tuzzo), but she also likes riding Mato and Giquau.
She always wears a smile, brings a brightness to the barn, and is supportive of her fellow Lancers. It is sweet that Lauren says that while there are so many things she loves about Lancers, her favourite part about Lancers is the people. She added, “everyone is so nice and encouraging and are overall just good people”! We are proud to consider Lauren as one of our Lancers.
Before we had our COVID protocols in place we could always count on Lauren to be spending time at Lancers regularly even on days when she wasn’t riding. She has great respect for our policy of “if you’re hanging around the barn you must be prepared to be put to work!” and can be counted on for helping with any extra work that needs to be done when she’s around. We’ve seen Lauren’s confidence working with horses has blossom during her time with us, and we know she will one day be a fantastic barn monitor, and maybe even an instructor.
We look forward to the coming years and watching Lauren grow and develop as a rider and horse person!
