Our Featured Volunteer of the Month is Lynn Murray
Lynn joined our Lancer community when her daughter Jenna began riding with us in 2017. Despite not having horse experience, Lynn has become a wonderful volunteer who dove into various volunteer opportunities. We are pleased to feature Lynn as our volunteer of the month for her commitment to giving back to Lancers. Lynn always has a smile on her face and she makes all feel welcome.
Lynn began volunteering at Lancers because she felt that it was important to give back to the community so she began helping at the Lancer Pony Club Quiz, our Open Houses, baking for and working at the Junior Executive canteen as a parent volunteer. She has even helped with night hay when Jenna signs up to do it on a weekend. Lynn notes that her job usually consists of filling water buckets and sweeping!
Although, as she explains, the closest she has ever come to riding was a trail ride as a teenager, Lynn was pleased to participate in the Lancer Parent Ride last winter. Lynn rode Alice who is her favorite horse because, as Lynn notes, “she is such a kind soul”. While Lynn enjoyed the experience, she said that she had to admit that it’s a bit scary being up that high!
Lynn has volunteered at a few of our Open Houses but the Musical Ride performance last autumn forms her favourite Lancer memory because it was Jenna’s first and last year of doing the Musical Ride. “It was very important to her to make it into the musical ride for her last junior year and I was very proud that she accomplished that”, Lynn added.
Overall, Lynn noted that “volunteering at Lancers is always an enjoyable experience. It gives you a sense of doing good for the community and yourself. It means making new friends and learning about horses”.
We thank Lynn for all of her many volunteer hours she has given to Lancers. Jenna is graduating from our junior program and next month, is entering into our J-rides in the adult program while she attends Dalhousie. We hope that Lynn continues to volunteer here and there at Lancers!
