Our Featured Volunteer of the Month is Emily Jewer!
“Lancers has a community like no other place I’ve volunteered with. It’s amazing to get to meet and spend time with people from so many different life experiences, we have artists, doctors, scientists, and all sorts of people who connect because of their shared love of horses.”
Emily started riding at Lancers 5 years ago, Before that she has been riding on and off since she was 8 years old. In the last 5 years since Emily joined Lancers, she has been involved in every opportunity to help out and be around the horses. After a number of years volunteering with the Therapeutic Riding Program, Emily has now taken on the role of Volunteer Coordinator! Outside of the barn, Emily works as a professional photographer, she has now been able to combine her love of horses and photography, we are so grateful to have Emily photograph so many Lancer events!
Emily enjoys volunteering her time to Lancers to be able to give back to a community that she loves. Spending more time in the barn and around horses has helped improve her horsemanship skills and become a better rider. The therapeutic riding program has had a great impact on her as well; “It’s important to me to make sure the things I’m privileged to be able to do, like riding, are accessible to everyone, and volunteering with this program is one small way I can do that. It’s been incredible to see the effect horses and riding have on our physical and mental health both with the awesome Lancer Therapeutic Riders and even with our volunteers.”
In addition to volunteering at Lancers, Emily also rides on Thursday nights. She has had many favorite horses over the years however, Jack has a special place in her heart “He has so much personality! He’s very mischievous but also so sweet and friendly. I’ve learned a lot so far from him in lessons and have so much more to gain still.”
“It’s been such a positive community to be a part of for the last several years and the relationships I’ve built keep me coming back.” Emily's contributions to Lancers have been many: from lending us her fantastic photography skills and all the amazing work she does with our Therapeutic riding programs, she also helps with open houses, spruce up the barn day, August cleanup and so much more! We are so grateful to have her help in so many different areas, building better lives through horses every step of the way.
