Our Featured Adult Rider of the Month is Maddie Quigley!
“The strong sense of community, diversity, and inclusivity that Lancers fosters is so special.” Maddie grew up watching Lancer lessons and always had a passion for horses and knew she wanted to ride here from a young age. In 2008 she joined the junior membership. Since then during her undergrad, Maddie continued riding on the Acadia Equestrian Team and has now returned to Lancers as an adult. “It is so amazing to see riders that I remember as tiny young kids now working as barn monitors and instructors, and seeing adults that are still riding that were adult riders when I, myself was a tiny young kid. It really shows just how impactful the ‘Lancer magic’ is!”
From a young age, Lancers has taught Maddie the importance of responsibility and communication, which she continues to improve upon outside of the barn. Maddie now rides on Wednesday nights with some of the riders she grew up riding with as a kid, she has made lifelong friends and connections through Lancers. As for many young riders, one of Maddie's favorite memories from Lancers was the first time jumping, “I was on Freddy and although we realistically just trotted over the cross rail, it was such an exciting milestone.”
Currently, Maddie's favorite horse is Ollie, “His in-barn disposition is so sweet and his spunky personality during lessons always makes for a very fun and entertaining ride.” Maddie enjoys her lessons as it is a great way to stay physically active, and with each ride, she learns something new from the instructor and the horse! Maddie is excited to get involved with more volunteering opportunities at Lancers this summer, she brings a positive presence to the barn and is always willing to lend a hand.
