Our Featured Horse for the Month is Rupert!

Rupert has been at Lancers for almost eight years, and turns 20 this summer. Rupert is full of character and loves attention so much he tends to demand it of people. He prefers the company of mares, and loves being the only gelding in his turnout group.

Since Rupert has been a Lancer he has had a hoof in just about every job there is for a Lancer horse. He competes at horse shows under the name “King Rupert”, and has competed up to 1m in the jumper ring which is no small feat for a lesson horse. He still competes in the lower jumpers and is a wonderful confidence booster for riders new to show jumping.

Rupert is a safe but very challenging horse to ride, so in turn gives an excellent sense of achievement to his riders. There is no better horse to teach the importance of the outside rein!

For the past two years Rupert has been a regular mount in our Therapeutic Riding program, and was very quickly identified as a most excellent horse for Equine Supported Wellness during our facilitator training sessions and has played a starring role in those programs as well.

Rupert can put a smile on anyone’s face, and we are so grateful he is one of the #HorsesofHalifax.
