Our Featured Adult Rider of the Month is Ami Karakach!
Ami has spent the last 10 years as part of the Lancer community in many many ways. She started riding in elementary school alongside her group of friends at school, because she thought it would be a fun sport to try. She fell in love with the horses and the sport. Lancers has been a constant in Ami’s life providing stability, joy, and many life lessons.
Ami has played many different roles at Lancers; Lancers was her first place of employment when she was a Junior rider, and she has worked here as a stablehand, barn monitor, and Instructor. Ami has also taken part in almost all of our extracurriculars, such as horse shows, clinics, and Musical Ride. She was also the President of the Junior Executive in her final year as a Junior. Ami chose to stay in Halifax for university, so has continued at Lancers as an adult rider. Ami has been an excellent role model and mentor to many of the younger riders around her. “I’ve been lucky enough to witness them go through the levels, spend time at the barn, and watch them learn not only from the horses but also each other” Ami is grateful for this Lancer magic that she has seen many times over the years.
Cory, affectionately known as “Sidewalk,” holds a special place in her heart. “I’ve been working with him closely for about four years now, and I just love him” she shares. She also has old favourites like Oliver and Merlin, and we can’t forget Reese who have each played a role in her time at Lancers.
Lancers has not only shaped her as a rider but has also deeply impacted her sense of community. “One of my favorite things about Lancers is the value of teamwork and camaraderie,” she says. “Riding is a team sport, not only between horse and rider but also with other riders, both in and out of the saddle. Through Lancers, I’ve met incredible people like Elise Lutwick-Campbell, Grayson Neuman, and Sophia Andriopoulos. I know they’ll be lifelong friends, and that’s something I’ll always cherish.”
Ami has truly experienced the magic of the barn, and has been able to help contribute to building better lives through horses to so many around her.
