Our featured Junior Riders for the month of July are our graduating riders!

Hilary White graduated from the Achieve Program at NSCC this year. Hilary has been a Lancer for 10 years in our Therapeutic Riding Program. Over the years she has progressed in her riding skills and personal development. In 2015 Hilary was the recipient of our Therapeutic Riding Rider award at our annual Holiday Gala and has joined us for many other Lancer events over the years. Hilary had a special bond with Inga who she rode for many years. She has always been an avid supporter of our Social Media, and made a point to stay connected during our Covid related closures. Her instructors have praised her listening skills, and look forward to having her in the program again in the fall.

Leah Chevalier graduated from Citadel High School this year, and will be aging out of our Junior program this summer. Leah has been a Lancer for 10 years, and has been heavily involved in all things Lancers. Leah completes her final year as a Junior as president of the Junior Executive, and over the years has taken home many Lancer awards including a much improved rider award, the Sarah Louise Smith trophy for the Junior rider who contributes to the most activities, and the Kenny Irving trophy that is awarded each year to the top Junior rider. Leah has also been a valued staff member, working as a stablehand, barn monitor and instructor. Leah has been a delight to have as a Lancer and will finish her year as a leader at our Salmon River Camp. Leah will be staying in Halifax as she attends Dalhousie University, so we’ll continue to have her at Lancers as an adult rider and instructor.

Marguerite Dunkley graduated from Sacred Heart School of Halifax this year, and will be aging out of our Junior program this summer. Marguerite has been a Lancer for 10 years. Marguerite has done a little bit of everything at Lancers over the years, including horse shows, Musical Ride, Salmon River Camp and volunteering for our Therapeutic Riding Program. She has built strong bonds with a number of horses over the years, and has embraced the challenges that come with the sport. Marguerite has also worked as a stablehand and barn monitor at Lancers, and won several Lancer awards over the years, including the Prince of Theives trophy, awarded for sportsmanship, and the Musical Ride award. She will also be finishing off her year as a leader at Camp this year, and staying in Halifax to attend Dalhousie, so we will continue to have her as an adult rider at Lancers.

CC Stender graduated from Citadel High School this year, and will be aging out of our Junior program this summer. CC has been a Lancer for 7 years. Though she was a little older than her ride mates when she started, CC always got along well with everyone and quickly improved her riding skills through quiet commitment and dedication. CC has volunteered for our Therapeutic Riding program and also worked as a stable hand. Though she did not pursue any competitive goals as a rider, CC took part in many clinics and the occasional Halloween Fun Show. We wish CC the best of luck as she moves on to the next chapter of her life at the University of Guelph in Ontario.
