Our Featured Staff Members of the Month are all our essential workers!

Whenever we have a fifth Friday in a month we like to take the opportunity to feature a staff member. This month we will be sending a shout-out to all of our essential staff who kept things running at the barn during our closure and made sure all the horses’ needs were being met, keeping them happy, healthy and fit.

With 27 horses in the barn who are accustomed to receiving care from 150+ riders on a regular basis it was no small feat to maintain the high standards of care for the Horses of Halifax. Our regular stablehands kept up with their already full days of work and added some rigorous sanitation measures to their daily schedule, and finding new ways to safely accommodate deliveries and farrier calls.

Our instructors and barn monitors who found themselves without work due to lessons being cancelled took on different roles as weekend stablehands and night check staff. They also put in many volunteer hours, coming in on a rotating schedule throughout the week to help exercise all 27 horses to make sure they could maintain adequate fitness levels to be able to return to work when we were able to start lessons back up again. They also showed up to help with the weekly hay deliveries without fail, and helped to come up with many new protocols for our safe re-opening.

We have now been back giving most of our lessons again with some restrictions quite seamlessly thanks to the dedication and hard work put in by Elizabeth Melvin, Saskia Felderhof, Emily Rafuse, Aminata Karakach, Elise Lutwick-Campbell, Real Clarke, Charlotte Grace, Holly Gordon, Jenna Murray, Sophia Andriopolous, Kate Stewart-Good, Emily Jewer, and Barb Mabe.
