Our Featured Horse for July is Cunningham

Meet the newest Horse of Halifax, Cunningham!

Cunningham has been a Lancer horse since April of this year. He came to us right around the time our Lancer community was mourning the loss of a well loved and treasured member and volunteer of 25 years. Without even knowing just how special he was, we quickly decided to name him in her honour, as Cunningham was her surname.

Cunningham is a quarter horse who was bred for racing. Quarter horse racing may not be as well known as thoroughbred racing, but horses are required to race for a shorter distance at great speed - lucky for us, Cunningham was not fast enough for racing, or even for serious barrel racing, which his previous owner liked to compete in. However, he has just the right amount of speed for an English lesson horse. Taller than the average QH, Cunningham stands 16.2hh, and is a beautiful chestnut colour.

From the day he walked through our barn it has felt like he truly belonged. He adjusted very quickly to being ridden English, and he became a fast favourite for many. He is extremely friendly and loves to be the centre of attention. Like his namesake, he is remarkably good at every job he takes on, and makes people comfortable and at ease around him.

Cunningham already has a place in our Musical Ride, which will be performing this Sunday on the Garrison Grounds at the base of Citadel Hill, where he will perform and receive a special welcome to Halifax! Come on out to meet Cunningham and enjoy the magic of the Halifax Lancers Musical Ride at 3pm on Sunday!
