Our Featured Volunteer of the Month is Kip Grasse!

“We are all so privileged to enjoy these beautiful horses right in the center of our city. Even if you do not ride, being around horses helps to remain grounded and calms your emotions. The horses are one of the best things about Halifax.”

Our Featured Volunteer of the Month is Kip Grasse!

Kip is currently Vice president on the board of Directors at Lancers. Kip has been volunteering at Lancers since his daughter Piper, started riding in 2020. “I am much more involved in Lancers than any other organization I have been involved with previously. I really enjoy the people I meet at the barn, and I love the horses too. Compared to other organizations, Lancers has a more vibrant culture, a richer history and presents more unique challenges and opportunities as a volunteer.” Kip has worked on our building committee helping with repairs around the barn, and he often helps out at public events such as Horse Shows and Open Houses. This year we are grateful for the huge role Kip has played in our sponsorship campaign. Lancers has many unique opportunities for sponsors to promote their business in Downtown Halifax.

Although Kip does not currently ride, he did grow up riding in PEI. Kip has a great appreciation for the beauty, power, and positive impact horses have on people. Some of his favourite memories at Lancers involve witnessing the interactions between the public and the horses during Musical Ride performances, meeting the horses and riders, or visits on the fence line while they’re turned out. Kip’s favourite horse is Merlin because he is a beautiful and gentle horse; Piper refers to him as the Big Friendly Giant. Kip’s son Harrison also rides at Lancers now, and his partner Shannon helps with Lancers’ Equine Supported Wellness programs. While Kip is not at the barn he enjoys cross country skiing in the winter and biking in the summer.

“Volunteerism builds robust communities and enriches the lives of those who inhabit them. It is an investment that brings many great rewards.” We are grateful for all of the efforts Kip gives to Lancers. He truly contributes towards our mission of Building Better Lives through Horses.
