Our Featured Junior Rider of the Month is Jacelyn Slocum!
Jacelyn started riding in the Therapeutic Riding Program in 2018. Earlier that year Jacelyn had gone on vacation with her family where she met a horse and knew right away she wanted to start riding! When Jacelyn started at Lancers she rode Inga, Ben and Rainey, and now she rides Cunningham. Jacelyn says that Cunningham is currently her favorite horse because “he’s so sweet and spicy. He is my buddy and knows just how to help me and I know how to care for him.”
Jacelyn enjoys spending time at the barn taking care of the horses, riding, and talking to the volunteers, especially Bob who helps her with Cunningham every week. Jacelyns mom, Janna quoted “The Horses, Lancers staff and many volunteers have helped Jacelyn achieve so many self-defined goals it’s truly amazing. Some things, in particular, we have noticed that she has gained strength in are her self-confidence, independence, gross/fine motor skills, and speech are just a few. We love the Halifax Lancers family and I cannot thank them enough for the joy it has brought to our family.”
In addition to the therapeutic riding program at Lancers Jacelyn has participated in our Halloween fun show, and has been the winner of the costume class multiple times! She also helps with fundraising efforts for Lancers and this year we’re thrilled to have her join our Musical Ride team as an honour guard!
Jacelyn always shows up to the barn with a positive attitude that is contagious. She loves all of the horses dearly and is a Joy to have as a Lancer.
