Our Featured Junior Rider for March is Callia Sylvain

Callia has unbridled enthusiasm for all things horses. At a young age, she would visit the horses outside at Lancers and finally when she turned eight, she attended our beginner summer camp. In 2016, she started in the junior beginner course and has now been riding for six years and is in Ride 3. She’s always happy and willing to help with tasks and she is eager to learn.

Over the years, Callia has participated in training shows, Lancer Days, and Salmon River camp. She shared with us that many of her favourite Lancer memories are from Salmon River camp from waking up to Angie’s whistle for the morning workout to spending time with the horses and doing cross country. Callia also enjoys the wildlife and tail rides at Salmon River and said “if I had to pick a place to stay it would be Salmon River with all my barn friends and all the horses and Jellybean (our barn cat). Jack and Rupert are her current favourite horses and she noted, “I love riding jack and how much he can teach me. Rupert gives me a challenge because of how unique of a horse he is”.

We have enjoyed seeing Callia grow over the past six years. Even though she wasn’t a timid child, her bravery has strengthened while in the saddle. Callia says that in the future she would like to become a veterinarian specializing in farm animals. We hope that she chooses to do the barn monitor training when she becomes old enough! Until then, we’ll continue to enjoy having Callia be a helpful and positive Lancer!
