Our Featured Adult Rider of the Month is Morgan Salter!

“Lancers has allowed me to rediscover my love for horses in a way that fits in this current phase of my life. My time at Lancers is an anchor of my week!” Morgan started riding when she was 7 years old. She rode competitively for many years as a junior and then took a break until she returned to riding and joined Lancers in 2021. This was not her first introduction to Lancers, in 1998 she took part in a summer camp at Lancers, and she competed with her horse in the Downtown Horse Show a couple of times!

“Horses and riding were such a fundamental part of my life growing up, and I missed that part of myself during my years out of the saddle. Joining Lancers, I was eager to find a balanced place for horses in my life and to reconnect with something that brings me so much joy. I'm glad to be able to ride weekly now, just for fun.” Morgan appreciates the accessibility, inclusivity, and strong foundation of horsemanship and community values that Lancers offers. “I enjoy hearing horse-crazy kids share anecdotes about the different horses, and that there's no pressure to have the trendiest tack and apparel. Lancers has high-quality lesson horses and it's fun to get a feel for different kinds of rides.” Morgan's favorite horse is still Jakey, she connected with him right away and loves his goofy personality and talent under saddle. Since Jakey retired Morgan has been enjoying working with Clementine and Vanna.

While at Lancers Morgan has helped out with barn clean-ups, gone to Salmon River for weekend trail rides, and has ridden in a couple of training shows. Morgan hopes to keep riding and having fun and would love to show again someday given the opportunity.

“I love being in the presence of horses. Forming a bond and establishing trust with a big-spirited animal is a humbling experience and a real privilege. Every moment around horses and in the saddle requires you to be present and engaged - I always feel re-centered by my horsey time.” It has been wonderful to have Morgan as a part of the lancer community. She is a lovely rider who is happy to work with any of our horses, and she and the horses appreciate each other.
