Our Featured Junior Rider of the Month is Jenna Murray

Jenna has been a Lancer and a rider for two years. She developed an interest in horses and the sport just from passing by the Lancer barn every day and seeing our horses and riders at work and thought it would be great to try it out for herself. Jenna jumped right in with a strong desire and dedication to building and improving her equestrian skills. In her two years here she has committed to regular private lessons on top of her group lessons and quickly made her way into one of our three times a week rides. She has taken part in our training shows and volunteered during many of our events. She has also worked as a camp counsellor during our March break camp and has worked her way up to being a barn monitor this year.

Although she hasn’t been here as long as some other Junior Riders, Lancers has made a strong impact on Jenna, “In my short time at Lancers I have made so many great friends and memories. One of my favourite memories was attending Salmon River camp for two weeks as a leader. It gave me the opportunity to grow closer with other Lancers as well as lots of experience with caring for horses and riding them.” Joining the Musical Ride is another favourite memory of hers, “Because the musical ride is an opportunity to share the Lancer spirit, history and horses with the community, I was honoured to be granted a spot in the ride.”

Jenna has love for all the Lancer horses but says she has a special place in her heart for Alice in particular. Merlin is also a favourite, she says, because he has played an important role in her riding development.

Jenna has stood out as an exemplary hard worker and been able to reap the benefits of that hard work. She helps both with the quality of care for our horses but also for our younger riders who look up to her even though some of them have been with us longer than she has. This will be Jenna’s final year in our Junior Program and we are grateful that she found her way to Lancers and is a valued member of our community. While Jenna has not yet committed to any university she is considering staying in Halifax and we hope to have her at Lancers for many years to come.
