Our Featured Horse of the Month is Fawkes
Our Featured Horse of the Month is Fawkes and we recently welcomed him as the newest member of the Horses of Halifax!
Fawkes came all the way from Ontario and is a lovely nine-year-old thoroughbred with the kindest disposition. He was formerly owned by Canadian Olympic athlete, Jessica Phoenix - Phoenix Equestrian Team . When Jessica was looking to rehome Fawkes, her description of him made us immediately think he would thrive in an environment like Lancers and when we told her about Lancers, she also agreed that this would be a special home for him.
Fawkes was a treasured horse for Jessica’s family members and comes with a lot of experience with children. When he arrived in Halifax, he hopped off the trailer and immediately settled into his new home after the long journey. We were told how much he loves people and other horses and this has all proven true in the short time we have known him! He has already won many hearts and he even participated in our Halloween Fun Show last weekend.
Fawkes arrived just in time for our No Stirrups November Ride-A-Thon where our riders love riding the horses with the smoothest gates! We have no doubt that Fawkes will help us collect donations that will go to our programs including Therapeutic Riding, Equine Supported Wellness, rider bursaries, and the Horses of Halifax!
This special horse arrived with a different name but we decided on the name “Fawkes” which is the name of Dumbledore's Phoenix in Harry Potter. We have a number of horses with Harry Potter themed names because horses are magical! Fawke’s show name will be Phoenix in tribute to his previous owner.
