Our Featured Adult Rider for October is Jill Forbes

“My day job is in mental health which can involve a lot of difficult conversations. Being a part of Lancers is like having a sanctuary within walking distance of both my home and workplace. It allows me to spend time connecting to animals and focusing on improving my abilities without any of the pressure that comes with the rest of daily life.”

Jill volunteered with the Lancers' therapeutic riding program from 2015-2016 to help others access riding the way she was able to as a child, and as a way for her to spend some time with horses. She remembered how much she enjoyed riding and signed up on the waitlist for lessons. Finally in September 2021, Jill started at Lancers in our adult beginner course and is now in A4 on Monday nights.

Jill doesn’t have a favourite Lancer horse but she finds Bud is so patient, she loves Alice's attitude, and always has to stop to admire Merlin and Mato as well. In addition to the positive impact Lancers has on her life, she enjoys the camaraderie and humour that her fellow riders bring to their lesson. She added, “it's nice to be in a group where we're all learning as we go, and we're fortunate to have an instructor like Holly”.

We’ve enjoyed getting to know Jill and she has already jumped in for volunteering for pony rides at our recent Open House! We look forward to more years with you, Jill!
