Our Featured Adult Rider of the Month is Mike LeLeune

Mike started out riding occasionally as a young boy but only took up regular lessons five years ago. He came to Lancers in 2017 when he moved back to Nova Scotia and was lucky enough to find a spot in out adult membership program. He enjoys Lancers because “the people are friendly, the barn is great and it’s in the middle of downtown Halifax.”

Mike is always willing to contribute a helping hand to the barn, and has volunteered with maintenance and building projects. He also helps in less conventional ways too, “In a small way I have been helping to relocate small amounts of horse buns to grow my roses.”

While Bud is Mike’s favourite Lancer horse, “He’s big and friendly with a little twinkle of mischief in his left eye,” he also mentions the most interesting horse he’s ever ridden “…an odd 6 year old golden Akhal-Teke horse in Turkmenistan named Galkan. Best known as an endurance horse once used by the Genghis Khan. He rode something like a living rocking horse.”

Mike looks forward to September evenings spent riding in the Lancers’ outdoor arena and a life spent with horses. When asked how Lancers’ impacts his life quotes Winston Churchill, “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”
