Our Featured Junior Rider of the Month is Alma Berry!
Alma has been riding at Lancers for 7 years. She had her first introduction to Lancers at a March Break Camp, after watching some of the afternoon lessons Alma fell in love and wanted to learn more and be a part of Lancers. Shortly after, Alma was able to start in the junior beginner course! “I have had many favorite horses over the years, but my current favorites are Rupert and Lily. I love Rupert because he’s always a new challenge and teaches every rider perseverance and strength and I enjoy riding Lily because she is very sweet but definitely has some fire in her.” Alma has made great friends at Lancers, she says that Lancers has taught her responsibility, perseverance, and what it means to be a part of a community.
“One of my favorite Lancer memories is from my first over fences training show on Ben. Ben is famous for his adorable but strange jumps, and one time I landed on his neck after a jump and then went over the next crossrail on his neck! I made it to the end of the course and then finally did a flying dismount and landed on my feet. Five minutes later, I got back on and went over the course for my second round! I even won a ribbon for the flat portion later on. It was scary at the moment, but it was a great confidence builder and taught me the importance of getting right back on the horse.”
Alma has been a wonderful influence on those around her throughout her time at Lancers. Whether it was helping others study for their rider level tests (Something Alma excelled at), going above and beyond doing barn chores, or being a good friend at Salmon River camp.
Many tenneagars at this stage in life are faced with having to make some difficult Choices. Due to other commitments Alma will be taking a break from riding in the fall. Alma has a strong love of horses and we have no doubt she will make a return to the sport again. We have loved the time she has spent at Lancers, watching her grow and learn as a rider. Once a Lancer, Always a Lancer!
