Our Featured Volunteer of the Month is Michelle Edmonds!

Michelle has been riding for 21 years and joined Lancers in 2018. Angie had been her coach for many years previously and when Michelle found herself horseless, she jumped at the opportunity to join Lancers when her name was called from the waitlist! 

Upon joining, Michelle embodied the Lancer spirit from day one and quickly found ways to volunteer her time at Lancers including leading pony rides at our Open Houses and putting in some elbow grease during August clean up! Seeing all the children’s faces light up when they get on a horse for the first time is a highlight for Michelle.

In January 2019, Michelle, as a Chartered Accountant, joined the Board of Directors as Treasurer and chair of the Finance Committee. Michelle chose this volunteer position because it allows her to combine her professional accounting knowledge with her love of horses. When asked how volunteering at Lancers compares to other volunteer opportunities in her life, she noted, “The Lancers membership is incredible and so supportive of the horses. As much as I enjoy the horses, the people make the barn fun to be around”.

We couldn’t agree more with Michelle; her presence also makes the barn an enjoyable place to be! We do see Michelle a bit less now as she recently bought a horse so she no longer rides at Lancers. We are thrilled that Michelle took that leap and are very thankful that she still continues to be wholeheartedly dedicated to Lancers, as she carries on in her role as our treasurer and finance committee chair.

While Cinco (her new horse) is her favourite, Michelle’s favourite Lancer horses are Mato and Candy. Michelle rode Mato in the Vanessa Lee Jumper Clinic at Lancers in October 2019.

We can’t say enough about how we appreciate Michelle’s financial acumen and her leadership in this role!
