Our Featured Junior Rider for May is Hilary White

“The impact the Lancers has had on my life is helping me grow with confidence and the feeling of belonging to a group. The horses have helped me turn any bad days into good days”.

Hilary describes the special powers of horses so well. Whether you are 8 or 88, horses give us wings, they give us confidence, they give us the ability to change our day and our lives. Hilary has been enjoying the benefits of horses and riding at Lancers since 2008! Her parents first heard about the therapeutic riding program from the IWK. After a period on the waitlist, a space finally opened and Hilary became a Lancer! Fourteen years later, Hilary is still enjoying her lessons. She says that the program and riding horses has helped her with her balance. For all those years, she has known Bud who she says is her favourite horse because “he is a big gentle, kind-hearted soul and he is funny and curious at times”!

One of her favourite memories is from a therapeutic riding Horse Show when she was younger and the award she received. Another favourite memory was taking Ben to Ronald McDonald House in February 2020 with many other Lancers. Hilary would like to keep riding at Lancers and in the future, would love to have her own barn and a horse!

We appreciate that Hilary is so gentle with the horses. She is so kind to them and always eager to learn and that's what makes a great Lancer! We’re thrilled to have Hilary as a Lancer and look forward to celebrating her 15th year with us next year!
