Our Featured Junior Rider of the Month is Leah Chevalier!

Leah started riding at age 8 and is now in her tenth year at Lancers. Leah brings a strong and positive presence to the barn and has become an excellent role model and strong leader to those around her. “Lancers has helped me gain confidence in the saddle as well as in life. Lancers has taught me many leadership skills and has helped me achieve many goals.” Leah loves all aspects of Lancers but her favorite is the community. She has made so many lifelong friendships over the years and enjoys the safe and welcoming environment Lancers and all of the horses have provided for her.

Leah's current favorite horse is Doc. She has been leasing him for the last two years and she has been helping develop him in the hunter ring. She enjoys his sweet and loving personality and that he is so willing to learn new things! We also cannot forget to mention Bud and Linus who played big roles in her riding career.

Leah has taken part in all Lancer activities. She has been a stablehand, barn monitor, and she is currently one of our Instructors! Leah is the President of the Junior Executive, she has been a leader at our Salmon River camp, she participates in training shows and off property shows, Lancer Days. In summer of 2022, she worked full time at Lancers for 6 weeks helping run our public workshops and barn tours. She also participated in the Musical ride. Last year was Leah's final year in the ride as she will be graduating in June. Leah was the leader of the ride for her final year. “Getting to be a leader in the musical ride was such a special feeling as I had worked up to that position. Riding in front of a huge crowd at the Garrison Grounds was truly an experience of a lifetime.” After Leah graduates she is planning on attending nursing school, and no matter where she ends up she plans to continue her riding career.

“Lancers and horses have taught me that hard work pays off and that you should never give up. My life is so much better having horses in it, I have a safe, happy environment I can go to.” Leah has been a wounderful role model and friend, who adds so much to the Lancer experience for everyone else around her. We are very proud of the strong horse woman she has developed into over the years.
