Our Featured Junior Rider of the Month is Ruby Persaud
Ruby began riding at the age of 10 outside of Halifax at another stable. Ruby was introduced to Lancers by longtime member and alum Gracie Walker, her neighbor at home, who used to bring Ruby along to help with night hay when she was younger. She was always excited to get close to the horses! In the summer of 2016 Ruby took part in one of our summer camps. By spring of 2017 she was lucky enough to gain a spot in our Junior Membership program and became a full time Lancer rider. “I loved it because it meant that I could ride and be around horses more often than when I was riding outside the city.”
Ruby is a an active member of the Lancer community, participating in Pony Club quizzes, training shows and even helping at off-property shows as a groom. She enjoys Lancers for many reasons, the people, the great coaches and the chance to spend a couple weeks at Salmon River in the summer. “[Lancers] gave me something to do that I am passionate about. It makes me happy. I have met a ton of new people and made good friends. I wanted to ride since I was in pre-school, so I feel lucky every day I go to the barn.”
Ruby’s favourite Lancer horse was the now retired, Zero but her latest favourite is Merlin who she started riding regularly this year and wants to keep working with. Ruby rises to the occasion anytime she is presented with a challenge, and works through it with quiet confidence. Horses seem to love her and she is a pleasure to have in lessons and around the barn.
Ruby hopes to be a Lancer for life, riding through her high school years and beyond.
