Our Featured Rider of the Month is Mariah Ruck
Mariah started riding at the age of 5 with her Aunt’s pony called Tony. She was hooked and her love of horses has only continued to grow. Mariah first came to Lancers for our March break camp and two weeks of summer camp.
After a time on our junior membership waitlist and with her previous riding experience, Mariah joined Ride 10 in September 2017. Now in her fourth year as a Lancer, Mariah is in Ride 5. She always proudly wears her Lancer red while at the barn and sets a good example for those around her.
Mariah is always helpful and kind to the horses and her fellow Lancers. Over the years, she has helped with hay and shavings deliveries, canteens, and bake sales, and has participated in training shows, clinics, Lancer Days, and our Salmon River camp. Mariah says that her favourite Lancer memories come from time spent in Salmon River trail riding, cross country and sleeping in a tent!
While she loves being around all the horses at Lancers, her favourite, without a doubt, is Rainey. “Her quiet and sweet personality makes her a joy to ride”. It is evident when watching Mariah and Rainey together that Rainey very much appreciates Mariah’s quiet ways as well. Mariah also loves all the new people that she has met over the years at Lancers.
Mariah feels that at Lancers, she has developed discipline and commitment and has a newly-found confidence. It is always a joy to watch horses pull this kind of confidence out of our young riders. In the future, she hopes to use this to participate in horse shows and have a horse of her own.
We are so happy to have Mariah as a Lancer and look forward to more years with her among us. #FeatureFriday
